Why choose our school

A Message from the Principal....

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to Kruger State School.  Whether you and your family are current members of the Kruger team, or perhaps new families who are considering enrolling their child/children at Kruger, we look forward to another year of inspiring young minds, creating multiple opportunities for success and helping to shape Queensland’s bright future.

At Kruger, we strongly believe that EVERY student can achieve high standards given the right time and right support.  We hold high expectations for student success in learning, particularly in literacy and numeracy, through quality learning programs that are inclusive and differentiated to meet the needs of our individual students.  We recognise that regular attendance is a key contributor to successful learning and as such, we focus on insisting that every student attends school, every day – ‘Every Day Counts at Kruger!’

Kruger State School was established in 1978 and currently has an enrolment of approximately 1000 students. Kruger prides itself on the respect for difference and the diverse cultural background of our community.  The school is led by a consistent leadership team consisting of a Principal and three Deputy Principals.  This team takes a strong leadership role, encouraging the use of research-based teaching practices in all classrooms to ensure that every student is engaged, challenged and learning successfully. The teaching staff is made up of over 60 dedicated classroom teachers, and are supported by numerous skilled teacher aides and support staff.   Our coaching team support our teachers to prepare teaching programs which maximise learning opportunities and outcomes.  Our school has a Special Education Unit, in which students are supported in a variety of ways to ensure targeted teaching to meet the needs of the learners.

In conjunction with parents and carers, we provide a safe, nurturing and challenging environment where each child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.  In keeping with the school’s visions and values statements, all aspects of life at Kruger are underpinned by our mantra of Be Safe, Best Effort and Be Respectful.  It is through these core expectations that we ensure positive partnerships are not only created, but also clearly embedded for the entire Kruger team.  Our positive behaviour system not only supports students to uphold the expectations, but also rewards those children who make a choice to sustain them.  ‘Pride of Kruger’ awards are a much sought after accolade amongst our students and are presented to numerous children throughout the school year.

Kruger’s sporting programs include Physical Education lessons for all year levels, as well as well-established interschool District and Regional programs. Our Rugby League Development Program is open to students from Years 4 – 6 and Kruger has had many Grand Final successes in this area!

Each year we run Kruger’s Got Talent, to showcase and celebrate the various artistic talents that members of the Kruger team possess.  We have great pleasure each year in inviting the Kruger community to events such as this to join us in celebrating student learning and development.

Communication is key at Kruger and we absolutely encourage families to keep in regular contact with their child’s teacher.  Parents are always welcome to visit the school to discuss their child’s progress or other aspects of schooling with myself, the Deputy Principals, Head of Special Education and our Guidance Officer.

The Parent Handbook provides some basic information about our school’s operations.  This handbook can be found on our website-

We invite you to also keep in touch with the school by attending the monthly Parents & Citizens Meeting or by reading the school’s fortnightly newsletter, which is also available via the school website.

The Kruger team are very proud of our school and its place in the community, and we look forward to welcoming many new families to join us in the coming years.
