Focus On Chaplaincy at Kruger State School

My name is Chappy James and this week’s focus is on Chaplaincy.

I am very pleased to be working at Kruger.  I graduated last year (2012) from a Bachelor of Social Science with a Youth Work Major.  Prior to working at Kruger SS, I worked in residential care for a few years and recently have started doing some youth work at Rosewood, with teens that have disengaged from school.

My plans for Kruger, are to assist in the holistic development of students at this school.  How that looks varies, depending on the age and individual needs of each student.  Throughout the year, I will be working across the year levels. Currently I am running a resilience club for students that are seeking social development and healthy relationships with their peers.  So far we have covered values through discussing a group agreement and participated in some problem solving activities.  I often engage with the greater cohort through playing football on the oval or basketball on the courts.

Looking further into the future, I hope to gain the support of the community through volunteers to create and run more clubs, where students can engage in a specialised way, i.e. colouring in, particular sports, beading and health and fitness to name a few.

Most afternoons, you will find me near the gates of the school.  So please, can I encourage you to come say ‘Hi’.  I would love to chat to you and meet the parents of the amazing students here at Kruger SS.

Please, if you have any questions contact me at the school on 3814 9333.

Chappy James.
