Temporary Classes until Week Beginning 6th February 2017

Please be aware that all classes and staffing in Queensland State Schools is temporary until the week beginning 6th February 2017.  During the first 3 weeks enrolments and classes are being finalised.  On Day 8 of the school year all schools will be given their final staffing allocation depending on Day 8 student enrolment numbers. This is why it is very important for all students to be back at school on time.

It may be necessary for classes to be rearranged to accommodate any increase or decrease in predicted enrolments. This may mean that teachers change classes or students are allocated different classes. If your child is affected by this changeover you will be sent a letter explaining the situation.  Thank you for your understanding.

Arrival at School in the Morning

Our first bell rings at 8.20am.  Students will move to classes and be ready to start lessons by 8.25am.  If students arrive before 8.20am in the morning they need to wait in the undercover area near the tuckshop. If they are with a parent, they can wait near their classroom under parent supervision.

There is no supervision in the school grounds before 8.00am.  After 8.00am a staff member is available near the admin block if students require assistance.

Teachers will remind students of this process, but it is important that parents instruct their children where to wait if they arrive at school before the 8.20 bell.

Leaving School at the End of the School Day

The school day finishes at 2.30pm and students are dismissed by teachers. Parents should ensure that children know how they are getting home in the afternoon. If you are collecting your child, it is important for children to know where to meet you.

Prep and Year One students will be kept in rooms at 2:30pm for a few weeks to ensure their safety and to allow parents to communicate with teachers about collection procedures. After Week 3, Prep and Year 1 students will be dismissed from rooms on the 2.30 bell.

Students still on the school grounds after 3pm should wait in the under covered area near the tuckshop. Please be aware that they will be unsupervised after 2.30pm

Please be sure to communicate with teachers and your children about afternoon procedures to ensure the safety of all students.

Road Safety for our Students

• Please note that during the hours of 7:00 - 9:00am and 2:00 - 4:00pm, the roads surrounding our school are strictly 40km/hr zones.

• Student safety is paramount and is particularly an issue in the school’s carpark.  Our school’s road and carpark are extremely busy areas, where there are often lots of children who do not always understand the danger of roads and vehicles.  Please make sure to take extra care when parking on school grounds, on the roads and streets around the school, and follow the signed parking rules at all times.  Please ensure that the lower carpark guidelines are followed (as per the signage) and that the drop off zone is used correctly (ie parents remain inside their vehicle and wait in line for children to walk to the car)

• The top carpark is strictly staff only parking.  Please do not enter this area.

• When crossing the road, please use the traffic lights or the school crossing, which is supervised by a crossing attendant at peak times of the day.  Students should never be encouraged to cross at other points along road (for example the roundabout) because of the high level of danger involved.

Smart Start to 2017

During the first couple of weeks, all students will participate in a Smart Start program to support their higher performance in 2017. This program is designed to give a head start to the school year. All students will participate in revision lessons and activities to extend their understandings in English and Maths, set their learning goals for Term 1 and be supported to develop positive relationships to set them up for a successful 2017.

All students will also participate in a range of assessment tasks to enable teachers to understand the capabilities of everyone in the class. Teachers will then plan and implement programs to target all students’ needs.

Year Level Newsletters

Keep a look out for your Year Level Newsletter.  This Newsletter will outline Term 1 key learning and assessment for your child and give you other information relevant to the year level.

School Absence Line

If your child is sick and won’t be attending school, please phone our Absence Line and register the absence:

ABSENCE LINE:  3814 9360

SMS Notifications

If no absence notification is received, the school will send parents an SMS which they will need to respond to by indicating the reason for the absence.  The SMS will go to the first contact that we have recorded on your personal details information. If you wish to update your details, please do so immediately so that the SMS is going to the correct person.  This is still a new process for us and we hope not to have any teething problems. If we do, we apologise in advance. It should only take a short time to sort them out. Thank you for your understanding!
